Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2 Shows New Trailer Two Weeks Before Its Netflix Premiere

The Trigger and CD Projekt Red anime introduces its new cast in a clip that highlights the obsession with brain dances and the search for what's real in Night City.

Netflix released a new clip from Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2, the standalone sequel set in the universe of Cyberpunk 2077. The video arrives two weeks before the premiere, set for October 20, 2026, with a total of 10 episodes.

The teaser focuses on a city consumed by brain dances. The accompanying tagline makes it clear: in a place obsessed with these experiences, sometimes you have to seek out what's real. And it's not a safe quest. The clip shows how far some characters are willing to go to feel something authentic, and the risk they're willing to take.

The production is once again a collaboration between CD Projekt Red and Trigger. The first Edgerunners premiered in 2022 and became one of the most talked-about anime of that season, both for its animation and its take on the world of Night City. This sequel is being sold as a standalone story, with a completely new cast of characters.

No David Martinez, a Different Team at the Helm

Bartosz Sztybor, showrunner, writer, and producer of the series, had already confirmed that David is not coming back. His story ended in the first season. Now the focus shifts to the darkest corners of Night City, with a tone that Sztybor describes as a story of redemption and revenge, unlike anything they've done before.

"David's story may be over, but Night City still has a lot to explore," Sztybor said. He also highlighted the excitement of working with Trigger again.

Directing is Kai Ikarashi, who already worked on the first season and on SSSS.Gridman. Ichigo Kanno is the chief character designer, with experience on Promare and the first Edgerunners. The script is written by Masahiko Otsuka and Sztybor himself.

The combination makes sense. Trigger brings that exaggerated, physical animation that worked so well in the first installment, while CD Projekt Red controls the lore and tone of the world. With Ikarashi directing, the sequel relies on people who already know the material closely.

What to Expect from the Premiere

The clip doesn't reveal too much about the plot, and that's a conscious decision. The press release asks to avoid spoilers and limits itself to presenting the atmosphere. What's clear is that the series will tread the same territory as the first: a cruel future, decisions that come at a high cost, and a city that doesn't forgive a single mistake.

The first season set the bar high. It achieved something rare in video game adaptations: it worked as its own story and, in the process, revitalized interest in the game. This sequel doesn't have the pressure of continuing David's story, but it does have to prove that Night City can sustain more stories without repeating the formula.

On October 20, we'll see if it succeeds. For now, the new clip leaves one clear idea: in a city where everything can be simulated, authenticity has become the most dangerous luxury.

Will you give this new batch of characters a chance, or does the memory of David weigh too heavily? Tell us in the comments.
