The Code Geass franchise expands with a direct sequel titled Code Geass: Star Chaser Aspal. The project was announced in 2025 to commemorate the 20th anniversary of the original anime and has already presented its first official images. The premiere is scheduled for 2027.

Launched in 2006, Code Geass follows Lelouch Lamperouge, a young royal living in a Japan under foreign rule. To liberate the country, he allies with the resistance using the Geass, a special ability to control the minds of others. That tool becomes the key to avenging his family's tragedy.

Sunrise and Bandai Namco remain at the helm of the production. The studio, known for works like Inuyasha and Mobile Suit Gundam, is betting on a major creative overhaul: direction and script are now in the hands of Kazuka Nomura and Mado Nozaki, who take over from Goro Taniguchi and Ichiro Okouchi.

What We Know About the New Sequel

There are still few details about the exact plot of Star Chaser Aspal, especially regarding its place within the franchise's timeline. However, early signs suggest it could continue the story shown in the most recent films and the miniseries Rozé of the Recapture, which aired in 2024.

The first teaser for the sequel is already circulating and shows a group of characters against a dark background. It's a small taste of what Sunrise is preparing for this return, and the excitement among fans is palpable. Two decades after its debut, Code Geass remains one of those franchises that defines a generation.

What stands out most to us is the creative change. Having Nomura and Nozaki take the reins after what Taniguchi and Okouchi built is a bold move, but also an opportunity for the story to breathe with new ideas without losing the essence that made the series great.

The franchise has managed to stay relevant with films and spin-offs, and now with this direct sequel it aims to close the circle for those of us who grew up with Lelouch. It's still unconfirmed whether it will reach Latin America and through which platform or distributor, but we'll be keeping an eye on every announcement.

What are you expecting from Code Geass: Star Chaser Aspal? Do you like the idea of it picking up where the most recent films left off, or would you prefer a completely new story? Let us know in the comments.
