Captain Tsubasa Rising Sun FINALS Resumes Serialization on October 6

The story moves toward the climax of the Madrid Olympics with new weekly chapters.

Javier Fernández 5 October 2026

The manga Captain Tsubasa Rising Sun FINALS resumes serialization this October 6 on the Captain Tsubasa WORLD website and other platforms. Yōichi Takahashi's work returns after a hiatus that began after chapter 100 was published on May 26, according to the official site.

The series picks up the story from chapter 101, already focused on the decisive stretch of the Madrid Olympics. The plot enters a new phase with the Olympic tournament as the main stage.

The break was announced in July 2024, when the work was being published on the Captain Tsubasa WORLD website and the Manga One app. Takahashi himself explained at the time that he needed time to decide how to draw the ending of the story, citing his physical condition and changes in his work environment.

"The final matches of Captain Tsubasa remain. I want to decide how to draw them."

The hiatus took effect in April 2024, when the monthly serialization ended. Now, the work returns as the final stage of the franchise, with a weekly chapter format under the "Nekketsu" label, the same one used for the spin-offs.

The Road to the Olympic Final

The current story is set at the Madrid Olympics. Japan, with Tsubasa Ōzora and the rest of the under-23 national team, faces Spain in the semifinals. Chapter 50 already left a significant moment: Kōjirō Hyūga, the Japanese forward, scored a goal against Spanish goalkeeper Callusias.

With the resumption, the series heads toward the conclusion of the tournament. The final awaits the winner of that tie, and the new chapters will advance directly toward that clash.

The return comes after 32 years of history of the original manga, which began in 1981 in Shueisha's Weekly Shōnen Jump magazine. The franchise has sold more than 90 million copies worldwide and has had multiple animated adaptations.

A Farewell in Weekly Format

The shift to a weekly format marks a notable difference from the previous stage, which was monthly. Takahashi has opted to speed up the pace to close the story without further long interruptions.

The chapters will be published on the Captain Tsubasa WORLD website, the official portal that has centralized the work for years. Distribution on other digital platforms is also planned.

The series' official X account confirmed that chapters 71 to 75 of the "Nekketsu" serialization are already available on the website, compiling the stretch prior to the resumption. Those episodes cover the penalty shootout between Spain and Japan and the qualification for the semifinals.

With the return of Rising Sun FINALS, the franchise enters its final stretch. Takahashi has reiterated on several occasions that this will be the last installment of the main Captain Tsubasa story.

The resumption on October 6 marks the start of the final leg of a work that has accompanied several generations of readers. The outcome of the Olympic tournament will also decide the closing of Tsubasa's story.
