Black Clover Premieres Season 2 with WANIMA Opening After Five Years

The anime returns with 'Kienai Riyu' and the ending 'Yellow Brick Road' by ONE OR EIGHT, available on Crunchyroll.

Juan Castillo 3 October 2026

On October 3, 2026, Black Clover kicked off its season 2 with an opening that's already getting people talking. The series adapts Yuki Tabata's manga and its first season ended in 2021, after 170 episodes. Production stopped because the anime was too close to where the manga was at the time. Now, with more source material available, the wait is over.

The new opening is titled "Kienai Riyu" and is performed by WANIMA. The ending is "Yellow Brick Road" by ONE OR EIGHT. Both themes premiered with the first episode of the season, which is part of the fall 2026 lineup. Creditless versions are already circulating on video, and Crunchyroll holds the streaming exclusive in North America, Central America, South America, Europe, Africa, Oceania, the Middle East, the CIS, the Indian subcontinent, and Southeast Asia.

The Team Behind the Return

Direction is handled by Ayataka Tanemura, known for Black Clover: Sword of the Wizard King, and the studio remains Pierrot. Scripts are supervised by Keiichiro Ochi. Itsuko Takeda and Kumiko Tokunaga are in charge of character designs, Kosei Takahashi handles prop design, and Minako Seki composes the music. The voice cast from the first season returns, though possible new additions have yet to be revealed.

The story picks up right where the previous season's cliffhanger left off. Asta and the Magic Knights of the Clover Kingdom train to attack the Spade Kingdom. They need to save Yami and Vangeance before they are sacrificed in the Qliphoth Advent ritual. To pull it off, Asta must unlock a new power.

What's Left to Adapt

Tabata's manga has already ended, so the anime has a clear path ahead. Two arcs remain to be covered before the finale. It's still unknown how many episodes this season 2 will have. What does seem clear is that another 170 episodes won't be needed to wrap up the story.

The first season aired from 2017 and left fans with a long hiatus. Five years later, the return arrives as one of the most anticipated sequels of the year. WANIMA's opening and ONE OR EIGHT's ending set the tone for what's coming. We'll have to see if the adaptation's pacing lives up to what the manga promised in its final stretch.
