Kobayashi Kiyoshi, a new employee at a commercial production company, is tasked with rolling a documentary camera at Engakuji Temple on the anniversary of the death of Yasujiro Ozu, one of Japan's most famous film directors. As he films, the lives of the people who come and go around him begin to intersect.
