Cheerful and friendly Nishino becomes roommates with Maki, his unsociable university kouhai, through a friend's introduction. Living with someone whose personality is his polar opposite initially troubles Nishino, but he gradually comes to appreciate Maki's hidden kindness and consideration.
Just as Nishino starts feeling comfortable with their cohabitation, Maki confesses his feelings, saying he can't stay with Nishino anymore because of them. Unable to reciprocate but unwilling to lose their arrangement, Nishino flatly rejects the confession by calling it a delusion and insists they continue living together. Their relationship becomes strained as they navigate the tension between Maki's unrequited love and Nishino's desire to maintain their bond.
