Subaru Kanameishi, a 19-year-old cram school student in Tokyo, gives up on his college entrance exams when his father suddenly collapses from illness. He is summoned back to the Kanameishi main family home, deep in the mountains, after more than ten years away. There, the family demands he continue the bloodline by producing a child with his older female cousin, Mana, who is 36 and whom he had always believed was his aunt.
To pay for his father's medical treatment, Subaru reluctantly agrees to the family's demand. As he struggles to find his footing in this strange situation, he must navigate the pressure of the task set before him while dealing with the unsettling secrets of the isolated village.
