The Melancholy of Mamoru

Sakagami Mamoru works as an elementary school security guard, spending his quiet days alongside his beloved dog, Haru. His routine is simple and predictable, filled with the comforting presence of his loyal companion. However, this peace is disrupted by Ayukawa Kyougo, a high schooler who constantly seeks him out with bold and teasing advances.

Kyougo is forward and persistent, declaring that he will make Mamoru love him more than he loves Haru. He showers Mamoru with attention, refusing to be discouraged by his cold responses. Yet Mamoru remains unconvinced, holding onto a deep-seated belief that human feelings are fleeting and unreliable, unlike the unwavering loyalty of a dog. He struggles to trust Kyougo's intentions, wary of getting hurt.

As Kyougo continues his pursuit, Mamoru is forced to confront his own fears and doubts about love and connection. The bond between him and his dog contrasts sharply with the unpredictable nature of human relationships, leaving him torn between the safety of his familiar life and the possibility of something new.
