Kajimunugatai

カジムヌガタイ 風が語る沖縄戦

In the final months of World War II, the people of Okinawa find themselves trapped between two brutal forces: the Japanese army, which treats them as expendable shields, and the invading American soldiers. In the title story "Kajimunugatai," a village unites to resist three rapacious American soldiers, while other tales depict the daily horrors of survival, starvation, and violence. Through six short stories, the manga portrays how ordinary people—especially children, women, and the elderly—become victims of war, and how both Japanese and American soldiers can turn into merciless enemies.

The work is based on historical facts and accounts, showing the terrible living conditions and the moral collapse that war brings. It does not shy away from depicting rape, looting, and the betrayal of civilians by their own military. Yet amidst the despair, there are moments of courage and resilience, as tough individuals offer hope to their communities.
