Three high schools—co-ed Narayama High, all-boy Kashimori High, and all-girl Sakuragawa—face a crisis. Due to declining enrollment and financial difficulties, the schools must be merged. However, the authorities cannot agree on which schools to close and which to keep open.
To resolve the deadlock, they decide to let the students themselves determine which school will survive. Now every student has a chance to protect their own school, but only one can remain standing. The student council of Narayama High, at least, refuses to give up without a fight.
