Jiseul

Jiseul

지슬

In 1948, on Jeju Island, the American occupation authorities designate all residents within a 5 km radius from the coast as "rioters" and order their execution. A group of 120 villagers from Seogwipo flee to the caves of the island to escape the military forces. The word "Jiseul," meaning potato in the Jeju dialect, becomes a symbol of their hope for survival.

Based on true events, the story follows these islanders as they hide and struggle to endure the brutal repression and massacre that marked one of the darkest pages in Korean history. The manhwa adapts O Muel's 2012 film of the same name, depicting the villagers' desperate attempt to survive the dictatorial military regime.
