In 1900, China is in turmoil. The Qing dynasty is corrupt and on the verge of collapse, while Western powers interfere in the country's politics. Sanjo, a poor farmer's daughter, kills a tax collector from the corrupt government and finds herself on the run.
While fleeing, Sanjo encounters the Giwadan, a group of dissatisfied men who aim to restore the dynasty and expel foreign influence. However, their extreme methods of force shock her. As she becomes entangled with the group, Sanjo ends up falling in love with Li Rai Chu, the leader of the Giwadan revolt, setting the stage for a personal and political conflict.
