Subaru Miyazawa, a graphic designer who uses a wheelchair, has always loved the night sky and dreams of seeing it from the far-off places he can only visit through photographs. The astrophotographer whose work he admires most is Tougo Amase, a man he assumes must be as distant as the stars he captures.
Then a design job for a planetarium brings the two together in person. Where Subaru expects formality, he finds someone unexpectedly warm, warm enough to carry him down the steps he could never manage alone so that he can watch the exhibit from the front row.
As they grow closer, Tougo invites Subaru on a stargazing trip, and Subaru must weigh his fear of being a burden against feelings he is only beginning to admit. Tougo's work, however, keeps pulling him across the world, and the distance between them may prove harder to cross than any staircase.
