Atsuhime, born into the Satsuma branch of the Shimazu clan, is chosen to marry Iesada Tokugawa, the 13th shogun, as the samurai era draws to a chaotic close. She steps into the political heart of Edo Castle, bound by duty and tradition.
Soon after their marriage, her beloved husband dies, leaving Atsuhime to defend the Tokugawa clan against the shifting tides of history. Tossed by political turmoil and personal loss, she must navigate a world on the brink of change and resolutely move forward.
