Genji Monogatari

In 1978, Mori Masaki released a manga anthology that adapts classic Japanese literature into visual narratives. The collection includes six distinct stories: an excerpt from *Genji Monogatari*, an excerpt from *Ise Monogatari*, *Shinshaku Otogibanashi*, *Bonnou Mujin*, *Yakusoku*, and *Kagerou Kaden*. Each tale draws from ancient texts, folklore, or original concepts, presenting them through Masaki's artistic lens.
The first two stories offer glimpses into the Heian-era courtly romances of *The Tale of Genji* and *The Tales of Ise*, focusing on poetic exchanges and fleeting love. *Shinshaku Otogibanashi* reinterprets traditional folk tales, while *Bonnou Mujin* explores human desires and attachments. *Yakusoku* centers on a promise that binds characters across time, and *Kagerou Kaden* delves into the ephemeral nature of beauty and life. Together, these stories examine love, loss, and the passage of time through a blend of historical and mythical settings.
