Chichi wo Yaku

父を焼く

Yoshiaki Mikami, a 55-year-old contract worker, faces the quiet reality of aging as his adult daughter leaves home to find work in the city. The departure stirs something in him, prompting a deep reflection on his own mortality and the passage of time. He cannot help but think of his late father, Yoshio, who died suddenly and alone 23 years earlier, when Yoshiaki was too absorbed in his own life to notice the signs.

As Yoshiaki remembers the day he laid his father to rest, a flood of unresolved emotions and unspoken thoughts resurfaces. He begins to examine the fragile bonds between parent and child, and the weight of the things left unsaid. Through his memories and present-day struggles, he confronts what it truly means to grow old and to carry the legacy of a parent he never fully understood. This is a quiet, human story about mortality, regret, and the enduring connection between generations.
