Suzumi-bune

In the Edo period, during the Kawabiraki festival that marks the start of the boating season on the Kanda River, a young woman who appears to be the daughter of a wealthy shopkeeper is lured by a handsome man. She gives in to pleasure, but just as they are about to consummate, a boatman spots them and the woman falls into the river.

Meanwhile, another woman who looks like her mother calls the boatman over and encourages the daughter to make love again while she watches. The film was seized by police shortly after its release in 1932 and its location remained unknown for over 85 years, until the 35mm print was secretly donated to the Tokyo National Museum of Modern Art Film Center in 2017, though it has not been publicly screened.
